We're thrilled to announce that Kai Cheng Thom's essay collection I Hope We Choose Love: A Trans Girl's Notes from the End of the World has been named a Stonewall Honor Book for the Israel Fishman Nonfiction Award by the American Library Association. The award was announced at the ALA's Midwinter conference in Philadelphia in January 2020.

I Hope We Choose Love is a heartbreaking yet hopeful collection of personal essays and prose poems, blending the confessional, political, and literary.

This is Kai Cheng's second Honor Book mention; her poetry book a place called No Homeland won the same award (in the Barbara Gittings Literature Award category) in 2018.

The Stonewall Book Awards will be presented at the American Library Association's annual conference in Chicago in June.

Congratulations, Kai Cheng!
