Lambda Literary Award finalists: Death Threat, Hustling Verse, Scorpio Rising

We're thrilled that three of our titles have been named finalists for the Lambda Literary Awards: Death Threat by Vivek Shraya and Ness Lee; Hustling Verse: An Anthology of Sex Workers' Poetry, edited by Amber Dawn and Justin Ducharme; and Scorpio Rising: A Queer Film Classic by R. L. Cagle.

Death Threat, a finalist in the category of LGBTQ Comics, is the first graphic title by multi-talented artist and musician Vivek Shraya, with illustrations by Ness Lee.

Hustling Verse, a groundbreaking anthology of poetry by sex workers from around the world, is a finalist in the category of LGBTQ Anthology.

And Scorpio Rising, about Kenneth Anger's avant-garde short film from the 1960s, is a finalist in the category of LGBTQ Studies. Scorpio Rising happens to be the final title in our 10-year-old Queer Film Classics series, but the very first to be a finalist for a Lambda Literary Award. (The series will continue under McGill Queens University Press.)

UPDATE from Lambda Literary: "Out of an abundance of caution in light of COVID-19, we have come to the heart-wrenching decision to not hold an in-person Lambda Literary Awards ceremony this June in New York City. The good news, though, is that this year’s Lammy winners will still be announced in June, in an online format to be determined. We also will bring our beautiful community of LGBTQ book lovers together for a fabulous, in-real-life celebration later this fall."

Check out the finalists here. Congratulations to all!
