Joshua Whitehead's acclaimed novel Jonny Appleseed has won the Georges Bugnet Award for Fiction as part of the Alberta Literary Awards. The award was presented at a ceremony in Edmonton on June 8.

The award continues Joshua's amazing run with Jonny, which started last year when the book was longlisted for the Scotiabank Giller Prize. The book was then shortlisted for the Governor General's Literary Award for Fiction, the Amazon Canada First Novel Award, the Indigenous Voices Award, the Carol Shields City of Winnipeg Book Award, and the Firecracker Award for Fiction. Earlier in June, Jonny Appleseed won a Lambda Literary Award in the US in the category of gay fiction.
